Benefits of Snap Down Glazing Bars
The following lists a number of advatages of snap down glazing bars:
- Easy and simple installation – its snap-down design means that the installation process is relatively easy
- Weather resistant – the snapdown glazing bar is designed to withstand even extreme weather conditions, perfect for outdoor use on roofs
- Secures polycarbonate roofing – specifically designed to secure and hold polycarbonate roofing sheets of 10mm, 16mm, and 25mm thickness
- Durability – the aluminium base ensures that the snapdown glazing bar is sturdy and durable for securing the polycarbonate sheets
Installation
When it comes to installing a snapdown glazing bar, it is quite simple when you get the hang of it. Basic instructions to follow are:
- Ensure that your project framework is suitable for application of the snap down glazing bars – the minimum width of your rafter should ideally be the same as the width of your bars
- Wear appropriate PPE equipment
- Drill the centre of the snapdown glazing bar between the teeth – it’s recommended that this should be no more than 400mm interval and approximately 75mm from each end
- Fit and push the gaskets into place on both sides of the snapdown glazing bar
- Position the polycarbonate sheets into place, making sure that the panels align with the teeth section of the bar
- Click down the end cap and top cap into position
Glazing bars are designed to sit on top of a structural rafter. Bars should only be installed pointing down the pitch of a roof and are not designed to be used horizontally. i.e. the glazing bars should run in the same direction as the water runs off the roof.
Maintenance and Care
Appropriate maintenance and care of your snap down glazing bars will help to maintain their longevity, ensuring that they remain sturdy and durable for holding your polycarbonate sheets. Although they’re a product that’s typically low maintenance, when fitted, it’s important that you regularly maintain them (alongside the polycarbonate sheets).
Rain can sometimes be enough for a light clean, but if you begin to spot stains or other debris on the snapdown glazing bar or on the polycarbonate sheets, then it’s time to do some simple maintenance:
- Always use a ladder when cleaning the roofing area
- With a sponge or washcloth and mild detergent, gently wipe away any stains or debris on the glazing bars or polycarbonate sheets
- Rinse with hot or warm water
- Dry the wet areas with a cloth or towel
